After what has been a defining week of Euro 2020 qualifiers, which have seen England and Wales qualify for the finals next summer, with Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland all moving into the playoffs next March, the Premier League returns to action this weekend and it is the start of a very busy run of games for teams as we head towards the busy festive and New Year period of the season.
It is going to be a very tough start in particular for two of the teams chasing Liverpool and Leicester City at the top of the table as third placed Chelsea face a trip to fourth placed Manchester City on Saturday evening, in what could be a key game for both teams as they seek to close the gap that has developed at the top between runaway leaders Liverpool and the three teams chasing them.

Story of the Season So Far
Although by most other team’s standards, Manchester City’s start to the season would be excellent, based on how City have started the past two season’s dropping ten points in their opening 12 games is an underachievement for the Champions and leaves them nine adrift of leaders Liverpool. At times, City have looked at their peak, especially against the likes of Watford and West Ham, but they have also underperformed at key times with defeats to Norwich and Wolves particularly damaging.
Chelsea in contrast started the season slowly and had to wait until their their EPL game of the season to clock up their first win away to Norwich. Since then, they have generally been solid, apart from two poor results at home in a draw with Sheffield United and defeat to Liverpool. With six wins in a row, Chelsea are the form team in the EPL over that period, although all of those wins have come against teams generally in the lower reaches of the table, or mid-table at best. This will be their first test against a top six side since losing to Liverpool.
Our Tips for the Game
Neither of these sides have been particularly impressive defensively this season having shipped the most number of goals of the teams in the top four. As such, with so much attacking talent on display for both teams, I do feel that this is a game that has the potential for a fair few goals.
City rarely lose two games in a row and even though they are facing Chelsea, they are at home, which means I think Chelsea are going to struggle to get the win here. That said, I can see Chelsea hitting City hard on the counter, which could make things very interesting. I also feel Tammy Abraham stacks up well against City’s central defensive duo and I like his odds as an anytime goalscorer.
As for the result, I think City will have the possession but I can see Chelsea managing to score enough goals to perhaps clinch a point. They will need a bit of luck and some fine defending, but I am going for the draw here and I think 2-2 is the best choice of scoreline.
Match Result – Draw – 4/1
Correct Score – Manchester City 2-2 Chelsea
Anytime Goalscorer – Tammy Abraham (Chelsea) 7/4
