Let’s begin our run through of the weekend’s games right now by looking at the first game of the weekend, the 12.30 kick off on Saturday lunchtime between relegation threatened Southampton and out of sorts Chelsea.
Saturday 14th April
Southampton (10/3) v Chelsea (17/20) – Draw (5/2)
There’s plenty on the line for both teams in this early kick off game. Southampton need points to avoud relegation sitting in 18th in the table, while Chelsea need to pick up wins to stand any chance of resurrecting their hopes of a top four finish. In truth, that may already be beyond Chelsea with just a few games left and the gap currently at ten points. The current Champions are not at theuir fluid best and I think that offers Southampton a glimmer of hope here and while I can’t see the Saints winning this, I can see them perhaps earning a point. . Tip – Draw (5/2)
Crystal Palace (19/20) v Brighton (16/5) – Draw (11/5)
Palace will have the advantage of knowing how Southampton got on against Chelsea before their 3pm kick off with Brighton at Selhurst Park but regardless of that result, a win here for the home side would be a massive step towards safety and could move them as high as 14th or 15th in the table. Brighton’s form of late hasn’t been great with three losses and a draw in their last four, but they should be safe from the drop as they are seven points ahead of Southampton in 18th. As such I think Palace’s greater need for the three points will be the telling factor here. Tip – Crystal Palace win (19/20)
Swansea City (6/4) v Everton (2/1) – Draw (21/10)
This is something of a tough one to call. Everton’s recent form isn’t too bad, but their better performances all tend to come at home, although they did record a very rare win on the road away at Stoke recently. Swansea have been in better form under Carlos Carvajal but they have hit a wall of late and are without a win in four games. That said, Everton’s troubles on the road means that I fancy Swansea will do just enough to grab what could be a Premier League survival ensuring three points here. Tip – Swansea to win (6/4)
Huddersfield (13/8) v Watford (9/5) – Draw (21/10)
With five points between these two teams, Watford should be safe from the drop on 37 points while Huddersfield have 32 and are still very much in the danger zone. However, I think this could be the day the Terriers ensure their safety. Watford are a tough side but they are somewhat erratic and their form is very up and down at the moment. Huddersfield play some lovely football and I think David Wagner’s team will get the three points they desperately need here. Tip – Huddersfield to win (13/8)
Burnley (8/5) v Leicester City (2/1) – Draw (19/10)
Burnley are the form team in the Premier League at the moment having won four and drawing one of their last five and they face a Leicester City side that are somewhat inconsistent at the moment. Burnley’s superb defence has been the cornerstone to their success and they’ll need to be at their best against the pacy Jamie Vardy and intelligent play of Riyad Mahrez. I feel that they will be more than capable of doing precisely that too and I am backing the home team to make it five wins in a row here. Tip – Burnley to win (8/5)
Liverpool (1/4) v Bournemouth (11/1) – Draw (5/1)
Liverpool fans are celebrating a place in the Champions League semi final, but they also need to cement a top four finish in the Premier League to ensure they will play in the competition next season and that means three points at home to Bournemouth is a minimum requirement. The Cherries gave the Reds a real scare at Anfield over the past two years but they were well beaten earlier in the season at home and with the success of two wins over Man City giving the Reds huge confidence, I am expecting them to win this one well on Saturday evening at Anfield. Tip – Liverpool win (1/4)
Tottenham (29/20) v Man City (17/10) – Draw (5/2)
This is the match that has the experts excited this weekend as Tottenham Hotspurs, unbeaten in 2018, host Manchester City, the Champions-elect but who have now lost three games in a row and four of their last six, in what promises to be an enthralling encounter at Wembley. City will want their horrible run to end here, but Spurs away is arguably the toughest test City could face in the league at the moment. Neither side will want to lose this game and as such, I think when that is the case, a draw is always a likely outcome, especially when the teams are as well matches as these two are. Tip – Draw (5/2)
Sunday 15th April
Newcastle Utd (12/5) v Arsenal (11/10) – Draw (5/2)
There have been some classic encounters between these two teams over the years, most notably an amazing 4-4 draw between the teams a few years back at St James’ Park. The Gunners come into this game in better form of late, but they face a Newvcastle side also in great form with just one defeat in six games and having won all of their last three to ease relegation fears. The Gunners have struggled on the road this season in the league and this looks like another tough trip, so I am backing this one to end in an entertaining draw. Tip – Draw (5/2)
Man Utd (2/11) v West Brom (18/1) – Draw (11/2)
This game should be a nailed on three points for Manchester United against a West Brom side that have amassed just three wins in the Premier League all season long. The Baggies ended a run of losses with a draw against Swansea last weekend but given their lack of form and confidence, the chances of them springing a massive upset here are practically nil. This is an easy one to predict and this should be a confident United win, especially on the back of their brilliant comeback against Manchester City last weekend. Tip – United to win (2/11)
Monday 16th April
West Ham (Evens) v Stoke City (14/5) – Draw (14/5)
A superb battling display at Stamford Bridge last week saw West Ham earn an unexpected point and that result will give David Moyes team a big boost heading into this relegation six-pointer with struggling Stoke City who have lost all of their last four games and are without a win now in their last nine games. The Potteries side are in real relegation danger and need to pick up wins quickly especially against teams around them, but of the two, I think West Ham are the more talented and better organised team and I think they’ll get the vital win here. Tip – West Ham to win (Evens)
